Hi All,
What a great turnout at our Twilight race last Saturday! A bit unexpected at the jump in numbers so we had a few issues especially with the kids race that we had a meeting about last night to try and fix up. Congratulations to everyone that competed, and thanks to all who came back to the Bowling Club after the race for a feed and to support our major sponsor the Kootingal Bowling Club.
The main issue with the racing last week was in the Tadpoles race. There was a bit too much conjestion on the course and this with a combination of varying abilities of the kids made it difficult for them to avoid each other. We have decided to run 2 waves in this event with the first wave being 5 years and above and their course will be unchanged other than we will make sure there is a marshal on the turn around to slow them down as they turn and for feedback on the safety of this and we will move the finish line further up the path closer to the gate they exit out of the swim.
There will be the smaller kids in the second wave, 4 years and below and they will do their ride and run up the hill instead of down the hill. So the little kids will now turn left at the gate after they have completed their swim. The smaller kids must have adult supervision if possible.
The 2 waves will have different finish lines but pretty close together to enable parents to watch both events but to avoid conjestion.
We will give this a trial on this Sunday’s race and make further changes if need be. We will endeavour to minimise confusion for the kids (and the parents!) but obviously the safety of the kids are the priority.
Just a reminder to parents also to check the condition of your kids bikes. If you are unsure come and have a chat to someone on the committee or go and see Brett at Extreme Cycles to have their bikes checked out. Also remember to tighten their helmet straps so you can fit no more than 2 fingers underneath their chins. I know they whine about it but better to cop a bit of whinging than a fractured skull if they fall off because their helmet was too loose.
Don’t forget there is bike skills and training for club members of both the Tri club and the Cycle club on Tuesdays at AELEC. If you want more info go to the website and click on training for details.
We are looking at Tri Club shirts. More info when we get some prices so have a think about whether you would be interested or not as we will need an idea of numbers.
There are still some great races away before the end of the season. Check out the link on our website for the Tri NSW calender. One race that has been recommended is the TriShave Women’s race on the 7th of March at the Penrith Regatta Centre. A great race for some of the newcomers to the sport!
The handicaps for the Saturday Twilight races will be on the website the day before the race. They will also be on the notice board at registration. If anyone has any issues with the handicapping please see Steve Hoy, Jeff Benson or Mal Ellicott.
That’s about it for general business. We hope you are all enjoying the racing this season. We have 5 more races left, 3 Twilight and 2 Sunday races. Hopefully we will see you all out at Kooty for the remainder of these races.
Take care, train safe, Mia.
